What is IMPS?

Nokia calls it "Chat/IM/Presence". Sony Ericsson calls it "My Friends". Motorola calls it "IM". Mobile Phones have inbuilt IMPS (Instant Messaging and Presence Service) clients used for Instant Messaging/Chatting and Presence services.

What is IMPS version of Wireless Village you support?

IMPS version 1.1 and version 1.2 of Wireless Village Protocol is supported by MobJab.mobi IMPS Server Note that IMPS version 1.3 is NOT supported by MobJab.mobi IMPS Server.

SonyEricsson A200 platform phones like w910i, K850i, Z750a are some of the mobile handsets which have 1.3 version of Wireless Village Protocol.

What are the charges for using MobJab?Are there any hidden costs?

Absolutely NONE. and we dont intend to charge for in future also. MobJab would always be FREE for its users. Kindly keep in mind that your Mobile Operator would charge/bill you for the GPRS plans.

My Mobile Phone doesnt have a inbuilt IMPS client. Can i still use your IMPS server to chat with my freinds?

Yes. You can. If your phone doesn't have an inbuilt IMPS client, you might want to download the MobJab J2ME/Java IMPS Client/Application that you can install on any Java enabled mobile handset.

Can I chat from a PC to a Mobile User connected on MobJab IMPS?

Yes You can. You can now chat from your Windows/Mac/Linux OS based PC and chat with Mobile Users having MobJab Connectivity. You just need to login to the Web Client of MobJab for a PC/Computer to Mobile Chat with your MobJab username/password and you can chat with your mobile buddies and your mobile buddies can chat with you.

After i login to MobJab I dont see my contacts/buddies?

You would require to change/update your presence to "Available/Online" and then your contacts/buddies will be displayed. For SonyEricsson handsets you need to select "Watching Users" to see your contacts and then add them from there (Thanks to Eric Strebel for pointing this out).

Can i chat with my freinds/buddies on AIM, FaceBook, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, Google Talk, Jabber-XMPP external Networks?

AOL Instant Messenger - AIM, FaceBook Messenger, GoogleTalk-Gtalk Messenger and Jabber-XMPP Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Instant Messenger - YIM and ICQ Messenger are supported.

Do remember that Fetching External IM buddy list is a phone memory/processor intensive process. For example SonyEricsson mobile handsets do not login to MobJab IMPS Gateway if there are more than 50 contacts.

MobJab IMPS Gateway doesnt limit the number of contact entries on the connecting IMPS client.

Why are two domains that is mobjab.mobi and mobjab.in required? What is the difference between this two domains?

MobJab IMPS Gateway on mobjab.mobi supports IMPS version 1.1 and 1.2 connectivity and AOL Instant Messenger - AIM, FaceBook Messenger, GoogleTalk-Gtalk Messenger and Jabber-XMPP Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Instant Messenger - YIM and ICQ Messenger are supported.

MobJab IMPS Gateway on mobjab.in has been taken down and development stopped.

After i login to MobJab I dont see my external networks contacts/buddies?

When you first login to your MobJab account after you have added AIM/Gtalk/MSN/ Yahoo/ ICQ external networks in your account you would get a presence message from the server asking your authorisation that if you want to add your buddy on the external network to your buddy list and subscribe to his presence. You need to add and authorise and subscribe to presence of the external transports buddies. Else you wont see the external buddies presence.

How do I Subscribe to a contacts/buddies Presence? Or I dont see all my contacts/buddies online? Or I dont see any of my contacts/buddies online? Or My contacts/buddies are not able to see if I am online/avaiable on MobJab?

You need to subscribe to the users presence to come to know if that user is online or offline. Log on to the Web Client and when you scroll the mouse over the contacts you will get the subscription status as follows:

There are 4 values for subscription status as follows:

1. None: This means neither you nor your contact has subscribed to each others presence updates.

2. To: This means only you have subscribed to your contacts presence updates.

3. From: This means only the contact has subscribed to your presence updates.

4. Both: This means both you and your contact have subscribed to each others presence updates.

You should have subscription status as "Both" for receiving the contacts presence updates and the contact also receiving your presence updates.

You can subscribe to your contacts presence by selecting the particular contact on the Web Client then right click the mouse and selecting the "Subscriptions" option.

What is the ID I need to use to add my freinds to my contacts?

The MobJab ID would be UserName@mobjab.mobi Or UserName@mobjab.in depending on which IM Gateway you are using.

My IMPS client hangs as soon as I login Or I am not able to login to my MobJab account.

Chances are that you have got more then 40-50 MobJab buddy list on your MobJab account and the handset memory is not able to handle the processing of buddy list members. We have noticed that SonyEricsson phones wont login to the MobJab server if there are more than 50 contacts in your contact list.

I am not able to connect to MobJab Server. Gives an error "Connection not avaialble" or "Error Ocured while Opening Connection" or "Login Failed" or "Network Error".

Either your Data/GPRS connectivty is not stable or your Mobile Operators Data/GPRS network is not able to connect to MobJab Server. Try connecting after some time.

If the error "Login Failed" or "Authentication Failed" persists and you have entered the correct username and password of MobJab IMPS Server then most likely your IMPS client has 1.3 wireless village protocol version which is NOT supported by MobJab.mobi IMPS Server. You would require to use the MobJab.in IMPS Server.

What kind of data/gprs plan should i have from my mobile operator?

MobJab IMPS Gateway will run on any kind of data plan from your mobile operator. This can be either Internet access data/gprs plan from your mobile operator which is called Full access Internet plan Or Wap access data/gprs plan which is called Limited access Internet plan.

How much data transfer is charged by the Operator by using MobJab IMPS?

The data transfer amount depends very much on the phone in use and what server features it supports. We have noted that for Motorola handsets the data transfer is more as compared to Nokia and Sony Ericsson. We would recommend that you opt for a unlimited data usage plan paying a fixed amount.

What kind of GPRS Plan should i subsribe with the Mobile Operator? What kind of GPRS Settings should i do on the mobile phone?

Go in for a unlimited data plan if avaialble. Select GPRS connection Unlimited Time or GPRS connection when avaiable or GPRS connection Always Oline. This would help in keeping the IMPS client connected via MobJab Server live all the time on your handset.

Can i use Wi-Fi as the Access point for the IMPS client?

Yes you can. The way round it is to copy a existing packet data access point, rename it to say "IM connection", then go to the IM settings and select that access point setting for connecting to the IM client. Then go back to your phones connection settings and change the "IM connection" from packet data to Wi-Fi. Now your IM client should connect via Wi-Fi instead of packet data. If I am chatting on MobJab IMPS server and I get a phone call and I pick it up will MobJab Disconnect?

Some devices need to close Chat/IM applications when a phone call starts, in those cases MobJab IMPS server sends the call request to the device platform and exits and you would need to login in again.

Do you use any Anti Spam/Anti Flooding Filters?

Yes we do. We allow maximum 5 messages that a MobJab user can send to another MobJab user without receiving at least one message back from that MobJab user.

Are there any warranties for this service?

We do not provide any warranties for this service. We operate this site as a free public version of the system and all users should treat this service accordingly.
